Art therapy pioneer Elinor Ulman once said, ““Art is the meeting ground of the world inside and the world outside.” Now in its 25th year, The Arts Center In Orange is building upon the ways in which it serves as a meeting ground for community members to explore the world through the lens of fine art by opening a free art reference library.

The new library is located within the classroom area of the arts center and features a wide range of books, from practical guides and art fundamentals to expansive biographies of famous artists. By making the library free and open to all, The Arts Center In Orange hopes to make a basic art education available to anyone regardless of income level and give creative minds a cozy place to learn something new.

The library is open anytime during business hours Monday through Saturday, and guests are welcome to free coffee and tea as well as internet access.

Executive Director Anna Pillow made the following statement regarding the new library:

“Over the years, many members of our community have generously donated hundreds of books covering topics including surveys of artworks by the Old Masters, how-to guides and publications on contemporary art. Thanks to the help of our volunteers, we are pleased to announce that our art reference library is now available to the public! Come visit us on Main Street to learn more about art while enjoying complimentary Wi-Fi and coffee.”

The library is an ongoing project which will continue to adapt and grow over time. Organizationally talented individuals who wish to help with the project are encouraged to assist the arts center with cataloguing and other related tasks. As an added benefit, volunteers who donate at least four hours of their time per week are eligible to attend classes for only the cost of supplies.

The Arts Center In Orange is located at 129 E. Main St. in downtown Orange. For more information, including upcoming classes, programs and outreach, visit www.artscenterinorange.com.
